Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I am very excited. It looks like after a seven-year split, Barbie and Ken are getting back together (and as for great PR, this is near the top)! I remember leafing through the San Jose Mercury News on Valentine’s Day in 2004 and coming across the headline: “SCANDAL IN PLASTIC LAND: BARBIE DUMPS KEN FOR YOUNG DOLL”. My OTP (one true pairing) had split up and to make things worse, Barbie ran into the arms of young, green-eyed Australian surfer, Blaine! Poor Ken.
However, because of a recent social media campaign by Mattel, it looks like things are going to turn around for Ken. He is pulling out all the stops to win Barbie’s heart back: using bill-boards in Los Angeles and New York as well as social media (check out his frequent Facebook and Twitter updates) to beg for a second chance. He’s even got cupcake and candy stores backing him up by selling “You’re the only doll for me” goodies because, after all, the best way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach, right?

I’m gunning for a reunion!!! Ken’s kind of a dork and in need of a plastic hair makeover, but he and the B-woman belong together.
