For the Record

Meet Stephanie Martin, anchor for California Money, KQED radio’s daily business and economics report

Tell us about your dream assignment.

How about getting paid to spend a year (or three) touring the world’s most famous restaurants, hotels and spas? My list, in no particular order, would include: the Hotel de Crillon in Paris, Claridge’s in London, the Peninsula in Hong Kong and the French Laundry in Yountville (I still haven’t been!). I might also throw in a night at a Scandinavian igloo hotel, followed by a month in a Bora Bora bungalow.

Describe the wackiest story you’ve written.

I once worked on a TV news story that was based on a conversation with Punxatawney Phil’s spokesperson (yes, the famous groundhog has a PR team).

What is your PR pet peeve?

If the story is about the groundhog, I want to talk to the groundhog, not the groundhog’s spokesperson!

Top trend in the industry you’re currently covering or are interested in.

How will most of us be consuming news 5, 10, 20 years from now?  It’s a fascinating question.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I love to travel. I recently returned from a trip to Israel, and I’m off to India and Nepal later this year. When I’m not travelling, I’m usually walking my dog, exploring the Bay Area restaurant scene or taking dance classes (I’m currently in a hip hop phase). I’m originally from Dallas, so if you listen carefully, you might hear a very slight Texas accent.

  1. Stephanie, my “dream assignment” aligns with yours. If you ever receive one similar, let me know if you will need an assistant! Thanks for participating in the blog.

  2. Stephanie – as the groundhog’s spokesperson, I take offense. 🙂 Just kidding. Great post, thanks for participating. Cheers, David
