Case Study

Selequity is an online platform for crowdfunding investing in commercial real estate (CRE) projects. The startup’s founders have unmatched experience in the industry, with more than 25 years working together across the many facets of real estate services. The opportunity for accredited investors to directly invest online in CRE was enabled by the JOBS Act. Selequity wasted no time developing its own unique platform to connect accredited investors with commercial real estate investments. The company turned to Landis to launch its platform and maximize the visibility of its founders during the rollout. Also, Selequity had some brand confusion issues with a closed business that had a similar name.

Originally designed as a three-phase rollout, Landis kicked efforts into high gear when we helped get Selequity invited to compete in the Battlefield competition at TechCrunch Disrupt in New York City. To prepare the team for a full-scale launch, Landis moved quickly to develop and refine the business’ core messaging, conduct intensive media trainings as well as prepare all digital marketing functions, including social media, search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) as part of a tech PR and marketing campaign. Additionally, Landis worked with Selequity to build a robust online Press Room with media-friendly information such as a company background, team bios, a glossary of crowdfunding and investing terms, and recent industry news and statistics.

For the Selequity brand, Landis established a strong social presence, including setting up individual profiles for the founders on LinkedIn and creating dedicated Facebook and Twitter pages. Landis managed these accounts throughout the conference and developed a social strategy post-launch to keep the positive communications flowing.

Following the company’s presentation onstage, Landis’ media mavens went to work pitching various media outlets ranging from technology to crowdfunding to business and real estate trades. Finally, Landis removed the closed business’ brand off Google search results, making Selequity the dominant result.

Landis earned coverage for Selequity in top CRE and technology trades, including Tech Crunch, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Commercial Property Executive, Crowdfund Insider,, International Business Times, Realty Biz News, and the St. Louis Business Journal, among others. With a successful launch under its belt, Selequity is poised to become the next big player in the CRE crowdfunding industry.
