Makenzi Jordan Rodriguez joins Landis Communications Inc. as a public relations and government affairs specialist, focusing on mission-driven clientele worldwide. Her research skills landed her work in People Magazine at the height of the COVID pandemic. She has a passion for connecting and fostering relationships, which has played a pivotal role in helping her clients achieve and maintain strategic partnerships with their communities. Most recently, her government affairs work has involved US-based initiatives to address food and nutrition insecurity, and international humanitarian aid for refugee populations displaced by war in Ukraine.
Before joining Landis, Makenzi worked in the film industry in Los Angeles, bringing meaningful stories to life by putting together crowdfunding campaigns and increasing their social media presence. Her proudest moment in film was when an independent short film she contributed to as production manager, set decorator and costume designer was an official selection for the 73rd Cannes Film Festival and amplified Black voices and stories at the highest level of international film.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she put her creativity to use by writing, illustrating and publishing a children’s book with her partner that sought to help children process the pandemic and celebrate social responsibility. While marketing her book via news stations around the country, she used her platform to raise awareness for diverse communities disproportionately affected by the pandemic and directed the proceeds toward nonprofits supporting healthcare and education for vulnerable children and families. It was this experience that inspired her to venture into communications.
In her free time, Makenzi enjoys antiquing and decorating her and her friends’ homes. She seeks every opportunity to reconnect with nature through trail running and camping in the San Francisco Bay Area and Big Sur. She loves exploring new cultures and cuisines through international travel.
