Landis is San Francisco’s Newsjacking Expert

Newsjacking uses trending topics to create media attention for your company or brand. When breaking news hits, creative minds find ways to take that moment and capitalize on it to drive traffic and interest.

Landis’ clients benefit from our media relations experts’ ability to create content and pitch news in a timely manner to take advantage of the news cycle.

For instance, when Prince Harry’s baby was about to be born, Landis pitched photos of client Sutter Health’s maternity department’s newborns wearing knitted crowns to popular media, commemorating the historic moment. That yielded results in entertainment media, social media and even internationally. Client Centre for Neuro Skills has deep experience in treating aphasia – when Bruce Willis was diagnosed, the Landis team placed CNS experts on broadcast media to explain treatments.

Centre for Neuro Skills

The Strategy

Bruce Willis/Aphasia: In 2022, movie star Bruce Willis’ family revealed that he had been diagnosed with aphasia and would retire from acting. Landis PR immediately contacted regional and national media about how CNS has been treating patients with aphasia for many years, and offered up neurologists/medical directors who could discuss this language disorder that can occur after brain injury. Landis PR pitched CNS to Southern California, Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth media, offered expert analysis about aphasia.

John Fetterman, United States senator from Pennsylvania: Just months after Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Fetterman suffered a near-fatal stroke, he won his crucial Senate race in 2022. Senator-elect Fetterman produced a letter from his doctor testifying that he faced “no work restrictions.” Landis PR made CNS available to discuss recognizing the warning signs of stroke, as well as overcoming the stigma of stroke and returning to work– much like what Mr. Fetterman has gone through in admitting his condition.

The Results

  • Landis PR secured interviews for Dr. Matthew Ashley with KBFX/Eyewitness News, KRLD Radio and Austin-American Statesman for aphasia story.
  • Fielded LA Times request to speak with a CNS family member. Connected reporter to Tim Culver (Oklahoma), husband of wife living with aphasia.
  • Landis PR recognized that Sen. Fetterman’s story is a win for stroke survivors and a positive outcome for those with disabilities. Landis pitched the Dallas Morning News for an OpEd written by CNS’ Dr. Omesh Singh.
